I am not one to brag of many friends or claim to be loved by many. However, I can safely say that I am sufficiently loved by the friends that matter and who stick with me through all. You see calling someone a friend has for me changed over the years. As time passes and one grows older, a friend is not just one you play with or hang out with. Our lives are crowded with responsibilities and work. So we may sometimes forget the most important thing in our lives which is our relationships. We are trying to figure ourselves out and improve our lives or get ahead in that job that we may not even like in the first place. We are weighed down by various issues that surround our lives. It is important to have a support system that you can always rely on.
I have found myself before wondering who to call on when I have a certain problem, I have scrolled through my phone book wondering who would be willing to just drop everything and share a cup of coffee with me because I needed to talk. It is rare to find such friends but I did and so when I'm in a dark alley with no light and scared to death, I have people to light the way for me. When I am excited about something and need to celebrate, I know who will genuinely celebrate with me and share my joy. When I need advice, I have the best counsel. When you have someone like that in your life, thank God for them and let them know that they are an important part of your life. Most importantly, reciprocate the love that comes your way.
As I turn a new chapter in my life today, I have come to realise that I am blessed with the gift of friendship that I cannot take for granted. It has been a wonderful year and I have to give the almighty thanks for all that has been. I have laughed and I have cried, I have lost friends and made some more but more importantly, I have strengthened the friendships that matter. To my friends and of course my family who are the very first friends I had, CHEERS! I love you!
